An Openly LGBTQ+ Welcoming Wedding Photographer

Cascade Light Photography is proud to be an openly LGBTQ+ welcoming wedding photographer (the same attribute we proudly display on our Google Business Profile). For us, that label is the floor, not the ceiling. Photographing the weddings of LGBTQ+ couples is one of the great honors of our work, and we approach every wedding — every couple — with the same intention, care, and craft. Two grooms, two brides, nonbinary couples, trans couples, polyamorous celebrations, and every beautiful configuration of love between them: you are welcome here, you are celebrated here, and you will be photographed here with the artistry your day deserves.

When you reach out to us as your LGBTQ wedding photographer in Seattle, you will never be asked "which one is the bride?" or have your relationship treated as a novelty. We ask every couple their pronouns up front. We ask how you want to be referred to in language across your contract, gallery, and any features. We never assume gender roles for getting-ready time, processionals, first looks, or family photos. The structure of your day belongs to you, and our job is to document it as you live it.

As a same sex wedding photographer Seattle and Tacoma couples have trusted for years, we've photographed everything from quiet courthouse weddings on the day marriage equality became law in Washington, to lavish 200-person celebrations at downtown ballrooms, to intimate elopements on the Olympic Peninsula. Each story is different. Each gallery is unmistakably theirs. The thread that runs through all of them is care.

Why Representation Matters in Wedding Photography

For a long time, the wedding industry was built around a single template — and many couples still flip through photographers' portfolios looking for any sign that they belong in those frames. As a queer wedding photographer Tacoma and Seattle couples actively seek out, we know that seeing yourself reflected in a photographer's past work is not a small thing. It tells you whether you'll be safe, seen, and celebrated on your wedding day. We make a point of including LGBTQ+ couples prominently across our portfolio, blog, and social channels — not as a category, but because they are part of the work we do every season.

Representation also matters in the small operational details. We use neutral language in our questionnaires (partner, partners, you both). We ask about chosen-family dynamics for family photo lists. We respect that some guests may not be out at work, in their faith communities, or to extended family, and we coordinate with you on how images may or may not appear publicly. We're comfortable photographing same-sex first looks, two-suit getting-ready scenes, two-dress portraits, suit-and-dress combinations, mixed gender expressions, and every other authentic version of how you celebrate.

Our commitment to inclusive service extends beyond LGBTQ+ identity. We work joyfully with interfaith couples, intercultural couples, BIPOC couples, neurodivergent couples, disabled and chronically ill couples, and couples of every body shape and size. If you've been hesitant to reach out to wedding photographers because you weren't sure how you'd be received — please know you can reach out to us with full confidence.

LGBTQ+ Wedding Photography FAQ

Are you genuinely LGBTQ+ friendly or just performatively inclusive?

Cascade Light is openly LGBTQ+ welcoming — the same designation we maintain on our Google Business Profile. We can share LGBTQ+ couples from our portfolio, references from past queer clients, and a track record of inclusive language in our contracts and questionnaires. If you have specific concerns about how your wedding will be handled, we welcome those questions on a discovery call.

Do you photograph weddings with two brides, two grooms, or nonbinary couples?

Absolutely yes. We photograph weddings of every configuration. Our timeline templates are written without assumptions — you tell us how getting-ready, the first look, the processional, and the family photos work for you, and we plan the day around that.

Will I be in any of your published portfolio images?

Only with your explicit permission. We always ask whether you're comfortable being featured publicly, and we honor any restrictions — including not posting images that include specific guests, not tagging certain people, or keeping the entire wedding off social media. Your privacy belongs to you.

Do you serve LGBTQ+ couples outside of Seattle?

Yes — we travel throughout Washington State and the broader Pacific Northwest for LGBTQ+ weddings. We've shot in Tacoma, Bellingham, the San Juan Islands, Leavenworth, Olympic Peninsula, and out to the Oregon coast. Our same-sex wedding photographer Tacoma clients get the same attention as our Seattle bookings.
